Was originally advertised on LJN's own adverts (for example, mini posters in cartridge boxes) that you played the role of Freddy and you goal was to stalk and murder the kids of Elm street before they gather all your bones to destroy you for good. Most believe that this premise was abandoned as being in bad taste and instead it was changed to have you be a teen whom has to collect Freddy's remains and destroy him.
