I gave the move four stars, but I'm not musical. You dig. (I stole that line from the movie. Thelonious Sphere Monk said, "You dig," at least twice. Now, my bother who loves jazz and documentaries and even gave his son the middle name of Sphere, would probably rate this a nine. Make sure who goes to see the movie with you reads the description first if not familiar with Jason Moran, and he or she may be able to follow along better. Bring earplugs. I wore mine. I don't know if it was a fluke or if the movie recommends the theater plays it loud. Interesting to learn about Thelonious, and the filmmakers show some of the town he's from. Terrible story of him being beaten by cops, and he did nothing wrong.
