Cotton flowers representing the explosion is a visual representation of a slang word "bavovna": in campaigns for misinformation in 2022 Russians attempted to translate "khlopok" (clap), distinctively Russian slang word for explosion, into Ukrainian verbatim. Since the very same word is used (with slightly different phonetics) to signify cotton, cotton became a symbol of explosions and missile strikes received on the Russian side of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
