An asocial teenager, Neku Sakuraba, mysteriously finds himself a part of the Reapers' Game, and must make allies to complete the game's missions if he wants to survive.

Story line

The series' opening theme was originally supposed to be "Teenage City Riot" by the multinational hip hop/funk band ALI. It was originally announced in November 2020 that they would be performing the opening theme. However, less than a week prior to the show's television premiere, it was announced that the song was going to be removed due the band's drummer being involved in a fraud scam. The song was ultimately replaced with remixes of songs from the original video game.
