The Capital One Venture card holds its own as a solid travel rewards flat-rate card. With simple, straightforward, unlimited earning 5 miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and an unlimited 2 miles per dollar spent on other purchases, the card makes scoring a pile of miles easy for those who don’t want to deal with activating bonus categories or tracking the often complicated systems other cards may offer.
Redeeming those Capital One Rewards can be as simple as earning them, though the best value comes in using your miles for travel—either to book a trip through the Capital One portal, transferring points to travel partners or redeeming them against a purchase made for travel with the card.
Though reward miles can be redeemed for cash-back as a statement credit toward non-travel spending or on purchases through Paypal and Amazon, the value per mile is less than 1 cent. If you aren’t looking for travel rewards this restriction, plus an annual fee of $95 is a major drawback when compared to any one of the multiple no-annual fee 2% cash-back cards available, with which you can use rewards any way you please.
Jennifer Garner wants you to sign up for a Capital One Venture card. She even wants her dad to sign up for one. The partnership started in 2014 and has led to a prolific cottage industry of Jennifer Garner ads and fans of her commercial work.
