Story line
Featuring the current (stable) line-up of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, KISS Rocks Vegas documents their nine-show residency at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
In many ways, Vegas (famous for bright lights, but not much substance) is the perfect place for KISS to strut their stuff, and strut their stuff they do, featuring insane amounts of smoke, fire, explosions and fire breathing...oh yeah, and some songs in there somewhere, too.
Some of KISS' best songs, actually, though it must be said Paul Stanley doesn't sound anywhere near as good as he used to. Vocal cord surgery, I think. Maybe a few less high-pitched screams throughout might have saved his voice for actual singing at this gig. Still, with Gene singing plenty - 'War Machine' is a highlight - Paul has to shoulder less of the load, and when he does sing, he's still decent. Don't get me wrong there.
Singer is a great, expressive drummer and Thayer looks comfortable in the Spaceman outfit. Great set list. Flashy, attractive stuff, it looked amazing on my big TV.
